ITALIA sailing vessel 1903

This four-mast steel hulled barque was built under yard No 17 by Cantieri del Muggiano, Muggiano near La Spezia, Italy for Becchi & Sturlese, Genoa.
28 June 1903 launched as the ITALIA.
Tonnage 3,109 gross, 3,030 nrt., 4,500 dwt., dim. 98.9 x 14.54 x 7.67m.
Crew 29.
September 1903 delivered to owners.

Mostly used in the trades outside the Mediterranean.
1907 Sold to G.B. Sturlese, Genoa, not renamed.
01 May 1908 due to calms and tide she stranded on the rocks in position 21 mile south of Iquique, and sank the next day, without loss of live.
