NAGGALA (S-02) submarine

When Indonesia established a submarine service in 1959 she bought 14 Whisky class Project 613 from the Soviet Union. The boats were delivered between 1959 and 1962. Two of this boats at least were bought only to get cannibalised to keep the other 12 going.


The vessel depict on this stamp is the NAGALLA (S-02), who was bought via Poland in 1959. (The name is also given as NANGGALA but that is wrong.)
Where and when built till so far not found.
Displacement 1,030 surfaced, 1.350 tons submerged. Dim. 76.0 x 6.7 x 4.6m. (draught)
Powered by two diesel engines, 4,000 hp. and 2 electric motors delivering 2,500 hp., twin shafts, speed 17 knots surfaced, 16 knots dived.
Range by a speed of 8 knots on the surface, 13,000 miles.
Armament 2 – 25mm guns, 6 – 21inch torpedo tubes, carried 18 torpedoes or 40 mines.
Crew 60.

1960 Overhauled in Surabaya.
1969 In reserve.
