PACIFIC PEARL cruise vessel

When this stamp was issued in March 2010 the depicted ship did not carry the name PACIFIC PEARL, but the intention is that she will be used by the P&O from the end of 2010 under that name.

Built as a cruise vessel under yard No 829 by Chantiers de l’Atlantique, St Nazaire, France for Sitmar Cruises.
28 May 1988 launched as the SITMAR FAIRMAJESTY.
Tonnage 63,524 grt, 7,506 dwt, dim. 245.60 x 32.20 x 7.70m. (draught)
Powered by five 8-cyl. MAN-B&W diesel engines, 39,000 kW., twin screws, speed 19 knots.
Accommodation for 1621 passengers and a crew of 634.
01 September 1988 sold to P&O Cruises.
04 March 1989 completed for Princess Cruises, Monrovia, Liberia.

23 March 1989 christened by Audrey Hepburn, Fort Lauderdale, Florida in STAR PRINCESS.
During the winter she was cruising from Fort Lauderdale to the Caribbean, while during the summer she made cruises from San Francisco to Alaska.
23 June 1995 during a cruise from Seward, Alaska to Vancouver she struck a rock about 25 miles NW of Juneau and sustained two gashes in her hull. Repaired at Portland.
November 1995 arrived at the yard of Harland & Wolf, Belfast for a three week refit to make her suitable for the English cruise market.
1997 Transferred to P&O Cruises, London and renamed in ARCADIA.
05 January 1998 she left Southampton for a world cruise in easterly direction, after her return in the U.K. she made mostly cruises from Southampton to the Mediterranean.
January 1999 she made an other world cruise from the U.K. in westerly direction.
April 2002 P&O announced that she would form a new subsidiary to be called Ocean Village, and aiming for a more younger cruising passengers.
2003 Arrived at the Lloyds Werft, Bremerhaven, Germany for a major refit. Accommodation for 1500 passengers.
April 2003 transferred to the Ocean Village Cruises Ltd, renamed in OCEAN VILLAGE. Swirls in orange and cerise were painted along the forward section of the hull and a very colourful funnel.
29 April 2003 she sailed under her new name from Southampton to Palma, from were she made alternating itineraries, with passengers flying out of Great Britain.
During the winter months she moved to Barbados for weekly cruises in the Caribbean.

Before she head down-under she will undergo an extensive refurbishment where after she will be managed by P&O Cruises in Australia.
Renamed in PACIFIC PEARL.
Her first cruise is planned from Auckland in December 2010 to New Caledonia.
