S TYPE (STALINEC) submarine IX-BIS

Type S (Stalinec) class submarine IX-BIS.
A very successful design based on the German type, which was original designed for the Spanish navy, but the order was cancelled, later the design was taken over by USSR.
An oceangoing submarine.
Displacement 780 tons surfaced, 1,050 ton submerged. Dim. 78 x 6.4 x 4.1m.
Powered, diesel electric, 4,200/2,200hp, speed 19.5/10 knots.
Radius 9.800 surfaced, 140 submerged.
Armament 1 – 10cm gun, 1 – 4.5cm gun, 6 – 533mm torpedo tubes, four bow and 2 stern, torpedoes 12. Crew 50.

The type was built after 1933 on yards at Leningrad, Gorki and Nikolayev, altogether 56 were built of which 16 were lost during the Second World War.
