GEORG BREUSING lifeboat

This lifeboat was built for the German Sea Rescue Society D.G.z.R.S. in 1963 by the yard of Abeking & Rasmussen at Lemwerder near Bremen, Germany.
Launched under the name GEORG BREUSING, named after the head of it custom department of Emden, George Breusing (1820-1882) who on 2 March 1861 the Verein Zur Retting Schiffbrüchiger founded in Ostfriesland (Eastfriesland).
Tonnage 72 ton, dim. 26.66 x 5.60 x 2.36m., draught 1.63m.
In the amidships a Maybach Mercedes Benz diesel engine, 1,400 hp, with on starboard and port a smaller Maybach Mercedes Benz diesel engine, each 400 hp. Three shafts, speed 24 knots.
29 May 1963 trials took part.
The boat has an open cockpit.
Crew 5
She carried on the stern a small self launching boat for rescue operations in shallow waters.
Dim. 8.50 x 2.45 x 0.70m (draught).
One Mercedes-Benz engine of 105 hp, speed 13.5 knots.
The small boat was named after a figure in the Emden city-arms ENGELKE UP DE MUER (Angel up the wall).

After completing stationed in Borkum which is one of the dangerous tidal inlets of the Dutch and German coast.
First under command of skipper Wilhelm Eilers, later Karl Friedrich Brückner.
Till 1983 in service at this station rescuing 1,672 people during this time
23 December 1988 handed over to the people of the city of Emden as thank for all the work they are doing or have been doing for the D.G.z.R.S,
Owned and managed by a society headed by Albert Bahr, with the intention to open her for the public as a floating museum ship
2011 She is now berthed in Emden in the Ratsdelft as a museum ship, publicly open and to provide information about the rescue work and to recruit new members and supports for the lifesaving society.
