The container ship on the stamp is based on an undated photograph of the R.J.Pfeiffer, a modern container ship launched in 1992 and operated by Matson Navigation Company.
Container ships, pioneered in the 1950’s, are the lifeblood of the today’s global economy, carrying nearly all the world’s manufactured goods across the oceans and exemplifying the modern merchant marine.

Built as a container vessel under yard No 445 by the National Steel & Shipbuilding Corp. (NASSCO). San Diego, U.S.A. for the Matson Navigation Co. Inc., Oakland CA.
27 March 1991 laid down.
Launched as the R.J. PFEIFFER.
Tonnage 32,664 gross, 10,846 net, 28,555 dwt., dim. 217.5 x 32.3 x 20.3., length bpp. 205.2m.
Powered by a 8-cylinder diesel engine 8L80MC manufactured by Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Kobe, 25,125 kw., one shaft, speed 22.5 knots.
Can carry 1970 TEU’s included 300 reefer containers.
01 August 1992 delivered to owners, building cost around $200 million.
Homeport Honolulu.

Used in the liner service between the Hawaii Islands and the West coast of the U.S.A.
2011 In service same name and owners, IMO No 9002037.
