SAMJIYON

Post by aukepalmhof » Wed Jul 18, 2012 3:39 am

Information on shipping in North Korea is very difficult to find, but by putting different forms of the ships names in Google I found the following on the 1988 North Korea ship stamps.

Given by Miramar as SAM JI YON is built as a ferry by Chongjin Shipyard at Huichon, North Korea for the North Korean Government.
Launched as SAMJIYON.
Tonnage 8,315 grt, 11,800 dwt. Dim.?
Powered by one diesel engine ?hp, speed?
1979 Completed.

She was used in the 1980s mostly in the service between Niigata, Japan and Wonsan in North Korea..
September 2003 was she broken up in North Korea.

(The design looks if she was built after plans of Russian passengers ships)
