RADIANCE OF THE SEAS cruise vessel

Post by aukepalmhof » Wed Jan 02, 2013 2:15 am

The first cruise vessel berthed on the left is identified by Mr. Crichton as one of the Royal Caribbean International Vintage Class cruise vessels, at that time only two of this class were in service the BRILLIANCE OF THE SEAS and the RADIANCE OF THE SEAS, the BRILLIANCE OF THE SEAS is also depict on a other stamp (Malta 2009), her info you can find in the index.

Following a series of e-mails to and from Tony Bushell, Systems Administrator for Barbados Port Inc, I can now confirm the names of the vessels shown on the Barbados 50c stamp. They are, clockwise, from the top :-
RADIANCE OF THE SEAS
VICTORIA
NORDIC EMPRESS
CARNIVAL SPIRIT
OLYMPIC VOYAGER
There was a sixth cruise ship in on the same day - Carnival’s HOLIDAY, but, this is not shown on the stamp.
My thanks go to Tony Bushell for all his help. Attached is an image he sent me showing the ships’ names.

The vessel berthed alongside the Circular Quay in Sydney is one of the Radiance class,
Four were built of this class only the RADIANCE OF THE SEAS has been in the Australian waters till 2019 so she must be depicted on the stamp.

Update: COVID-19 pandemic

The ship was ordered to leave Sydney by the New South Wales police under "Operation Nemesis" due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It was provisioned in Sydney on 3 April 2020 and left port without passengers on 4 April towards Singapore.

2020 In service, same name, and owners.
