S A AGULHAS II 2012

Built as a polar icebreaking supply and research vessel under yard No 1369 by STX FINLAND, Rauma, Finland for the South African Government (Department of Water and Environmental Affairs.)
17 November 2009 ordered.
31 January 2011 laid down.
21 July 2011 launched as the S.A. AGULHAS II.
Tonnage 12,897 grt, 3,840 net, 4,780 dwt. Displacement 13,687 ton. Dim. 134.2 x 21.7 x 10.55m., draught 7.65m. length bpp.121.25m.
Powered, diesel-electric by four Wärtsilä 6L32 diesel engines, 12,000 kW, two electro motors each 3,000 kW, twin shafts, two controllable pitch propellers, speed 16 knots. Two bow thruster’s one stern.
Range by a speed of 14 knots, 15,000 mile
Accommodation for 100 passengers in 46 cabins and 45 crew.
Fitted out with eight laboratories and a place to carry sic containerized laboratories.
Carried two Atlas Oryx helicopters. One helideck and hangar.
Cargo capacity 4,000 m².
03 April 2012 completed, building cost around 116 million Euros.

03 May 2012 arrived in Cape Town where she will replace the older S.A. AGULHAS (I) as the South African polar supply ship.

2022 In service, managed by Smit Amandla Marine Pty. Ltd., Cape Town, IMO No 9577135.
