DANAE. Frigate. Leander class. Pennant No F47. Built at H M Dockyard, Devonport for the Royal Navy Launched 31' October 1965. Laid down 16th December 1964. Completed 7th September 1967. L360'wl. 372'oa. B41'. Dr18'. 2.450tn (standard) 2.860 (full load) Two geared turbines. 30.000shp. 2 screws. 30kn.
Armament Two 4.5" DP (twin) Two 40mm (single) Two 20mm AA guns Seacat missile system AntiSubmarine weapons. 1 Wasp Helicopter. Complement 263. One of a class of some 19 vessels.
This stamp was privately designed for use on local mail (posted at special collection points) during the Postal Strike in the United Kingdom in 1971 - Postal Strike Stamp (London-Portsmouth) 1971.4/-. NC (T Broadley T811971)
