EAGLE. Aircraft Carrier. Built in 1951 by Harland & Wolff, Belfast as AUDACIOUS. Keel laid 24th October 1942. Launched 19th March 1946. Completed 1st Oct 1952. 43000tn. L811'. B112'8" (flight deck 171 ') Dr36' Parsons turbines. 152000shp. 4 screws. 31kn. Armed with Eight 4.5" guns. Six quadruple 'Seacat' missile launchers. 34 Aircraft. 10 Helicopters. Complement 2730 including aircrews. She was renamed EAGLE on 21st January 1946. Refit 1956-7 added angled flight deck and mirror landing system. She was modernized between 1959-64 at Devonport Dockyard. Steam catapults, comprehensive radar, and latticed masts were added. Armament replaced. Laid up at Devonport in 1972. EAGLE visited Ascension Islands in 1968. The stamp depicts the ships crest

Scrapped at Cairnryan,Scotland where she arrived on 19 October 1978
