The number on the tower is S177 which belongs to the German submarine U-28.

Built as a submarine under yard No 50/448 by Rhein-Stahl-Nordseewerke GmbH, Emden for the German Bundesmarine.
04 October 1972 laid down.
22 January 1974 launched as the U-28, christened by Mrs. Herta Gruschka. The boat was one of Class 2006 of which 18 boats were built.
Displacement, surfaced 450 tons, submerged 498 ton. Dim. 48.6 x 4.6 x 4.5m (draught surfaced)
Powered diesel electric by two MTU 12-cyl. diesels, 1,500 hp. One electro motor, speed submerged 17 knots, surface 10 knots.
Armament 8 – 533mm torpedo tubes.
Crew 27.
18 December 1974 commissioned at Kiel.

From 18 December 1974 until 15 March 1988 based at Kiel. Then at Eckernforde till 23 June 2004
From May 1989 till July 1990 refitted by Howaldtswerke-Deutsche Werft (HDW).
During her career she was 2152 days at sea and steamed 180,376 miles.
30 June 2004 decommissioned.

14 May 2008 during an auction was she bought by Scheepsslopery Nederland BV in s-Gravendeel, Netherland for scrapping.
