FALLS OF CLYDE. 4 Masted Ship. Built in 1878 by Russell & Co. Glasgow. 1741Nt. L266'. B40'.
Hull of wrought iron plates 11/16" thick. Designed for the Calcutta trade. She was the Pioneer Ship of the Falls Line.
Maiden Voyage in 1879 to Karachi. She was very fast and could sail at 15kn. without much pressing. She was bought by William Matson of Honolulu in 1898. Changed to Barque rig.
In 1907 she was bought by the Anglo-American Oil Co. converted to an Oil Tanker and employed amongst the oil sailing fleet carrying kerosene from the States to the East. Her last voyage under sail was to Brazil in 1921. She was converted into a Barge at Los Angeles and used for 35 years as a floating service station. Then she was taken over by the Bishop Museum, Honolulu as a Museum Ship - The Pineapple Post (Honolulu-Hawaii) 10c. Cinderella. NC (T Broadley. LB13/444)
