Uruguay issued in 2016 a miniature sheet for the first Antarctic Expedition with the INSTITUTO DE PESCA No 1 under command of Lieutenant Ruperto Elichiribehety (1888-1929) which portrait is also shown on the ms. The voyage was also made to rescue the men of Shackleton Trans-Antarctic-Expedition who were stranded on Elephant Island after their vessel ENDURANCE was lost in the ice.
The info given above is not for 100% correct, the source it was taken from I believe “Aberdeen Built Ships” which has mixed up two trawlers with the same name PRINCESS ROYAL, the first was built under yard 425 in 1906 with a tonnage of 284 gross, while the second trawler was built under yard no 485 in 1913 with a tonnage of 213 gross, both were built by A Hall in Aberdeen for the same owner.
The vessel depict on this stamps was built as an iron hulled trawler under yard No 425 by A.Hall, Aberdeen for the Dodd’s Steam Fishing Company Ltd, Aberdeen.
22 September 1906 launched as the PRINCESS ROYAL.
Tonnage 284 gross, 97 net, dim. 45.67 x 7.04 x 3.72m
Powered by a one 3-cyl. triple expansion steam engine, built by shipbuilder. 86 nhp. Speed ca 10 knots.
November 1906 completed.

Was used as a fishing vessel in the North Sea after completing.
Late 1909 sold to the Argentina Government, Compania de Pesca Rio de La Plata, not renamed.
1912 Sold to Pescadora Argentina S.A. and renamed DIEZ.
18 September 1911 Uruguay founded the Fisheries Research Institute and bought in 1914 the DIEZ for 8.000 pounds (37,000 gold peso) included gear and nets.
01 December 1914 under Uruguay flag and registry renamed in INSTITUTO DE PESCA No 1.
When in May 1916 the news arrived in South America of the sinking of the ENDURANCE and a request of Shackleton for a vessel capable of steaming in the ice in the Antarctic waters and rescue the men from Elephant Island, the Uruguayan Government .supplied the INSTITUTO DE PESCA No 1 under command of Lieutenant RUPERTO ELICHIRIBEHETY a crew and scientists.
08 June 1916 the expedition left Montevideo bound for the Antarctic, after a call at the Falkland Islands from where they left on 17 June and on 21 June the vessel passed the 60 degree South latitude, the first vessel under Uruguay flag who passed this altitude.
When in a position about 20 miles from Elephant Island the vessel could not more break the ice, and Shackleton the most experienced man for ice navigation, insisted that the rescue called off and the vessel return to open water, the risk of getting caught in the ice was too great.
After the INSTITUTO DE PESCA No 1 returned to Montevideo, she was again used by the Fishery Research Institute.
1936 Taken over by the Uruguay Government and renamed ALDEBARAN.
1942 Transferred to the Uruguay General Inspectorate of the Navy.
1953 Sold for 500 Pesos to Hector Hercules Gualla Araoz, where after she was scrapped in Capurro, Uruguay.
She is still mentioned in Lloyd Registry 1955/56.
