YMER icebreaker

Built as an icebreaker under yard No 413 by Oy Wärtsilä Sandviken Ab, Helsingfors, Finland for the Swedish Government (Swedish Maritime Administration.)
03 September 1976 launched as the YMER, four sisters the ATLE, FREJ, URHO and SISU.
Tonnage 6,908 grt, 2,600 dwt, dim. 104.70 x 23.80 x 8.30m. (draught), length bpp. 96.0m.
Powered: Diesel electric by five 12-cyl. Wärtsilä S.E.M.T. Pielstick 12PC-2 diesel engines, 16,240 kW (22,000 hp). Two propellers fore and two propellers aft, speed 19 knots. Can break ice up to 1.2 metre by a speed of 3 knots.
Bollard pull 185 tons.
Accommodation: 30 single cabins and 5 double cabins.
25 October 1977 delivered to owners. Crewed by Swedish Navy personnel.

03 November 1977 sailed from Helsinki to Stockholm.
24 June 1980 used for an Arctic expedition returned to Stockholm on 01 October 1980.
04 February 1984 when the APOLLO III got stuck in the ice off Söderarm the YMER came to the rescue to free her, when the ice broke the APOLLO III came in collision with the YMER.
1983 Converted to HFO fuel operation by the Oskarshamn shipyard.
01 August 2001 management of vessel was taken over by B&N Hornet AB, Stockholm, navy crew replaced by a civil crew.
01 May 2005 management transferred to OSM Ship Management, Gothenburg.
01 June 2008 management transferred to Icebreaker Management AB, Rederi AB Transatlantic, Skärhamn.
During the summer of 2008 the YMER visited various ports in Sweden to provide information on the maritime profession.
2014 In service same name and owners IMO No 7505346.
