The Canadian 12-metre yacht TRUE NORTH (1) KC87 was built by Crockett-McConnell at Bridgewater, N.S., Canada for the True North Yachting Challenges Inc., representing the Royal Nova Scotia Yacht Squadron of Halifax. The two yachts were designed by Steve Killing.
She was built for the 1987 challenge of the America Cup, the yacht on the stamp has a red hull while the real TRUE NORTH did have a blue hull with a red stripe. Actually two yachts were built both named TRUE NORTH 1 and 2 but the 2 was due to money problems not completed at that time and was never used in the America challenges races.
In the 1986 World Championship for 12-metre yachts, TRUE NORTH demonstrated that she is an above average yacht.

When the True North Syndicate merged with the Secret Cove Syndicate in April 1986, the CANADA of the Secret Cove Syndicate was chosen as the Canadian contender after extensive trials.
1986 TRUE NORTH sold to Canada’s Challenge ’87, Halifax, not renamed.
1993 Sold to 12 Meter Challenge (Colin Percy), Halifax, not renamed.
2014 Same owner and based in St Maarten, Netherlands Antilles for charter or match races.
Solomon Island issued also a stamp in the same series with the yacht SECRET COVE, but not a yacht with that name exist, only there is a Secret Cove Yacht Club in Canada and the syndicate which sponsored CANADA II for the 1987 challenge, but the CANADA had a white hull with a red stripe. The yacht shown on the stamp has a blue hull with a red stripe which fits the description of the TRUE NORTH (1).
