Sweden issued in 1990 a stamp booklet of which two stamps show ships. The booklet was issued on 8 August 1990 honouring the 250th anniversary of the birth of Carl Michael Bellman and the 100th anniversary of the birth of Evert Taube, two popular poets and writers of Sweden’s most beloved song lyrics.
Three of the stamps pay homage to Bellman, and depict scenes from the verses in his best known work “Fredmans epistler.” In this work Bellman describes 18th century Stockholm with its bustling life, and the events in the life of the central character Fredman.
The 2.50 Kr stamp depicts Fredman and his friends enjoying themselves in an open boat.

The other three stamps honour Taube, whose poetry is closely associated with his own life. He found inspiration in the Swedish west coast, his sea travels his adventurous years in Argentina and around the Mediterranean, Stockholm and the archipelago.
One of this stamps depicts a brig, illustrating the years that Taube spent at sea and his travels to far-off lands.
