LENINIST (L-1) submarine

Built as a submarine/minelayer by Plant 189 (Baltic Shipyard), Leningrad for the Soviet Navy,
06 September 1929 laid down.
28 February 1931 launched as the LENINIST (L-I), she was the lead ship of her class.
Displacement 1,050 ton surface, 1.330 ton submerged, dim. 79.0 x 7.0 x 4.1m. (draught)
Two diesel engines type 42BM6 each 1,100 hp, and two electro motors each 650 hp., one shaft, speed 14 knots surface, submerged 8 knots.
Maximum diving depth 90m.
Armament 6 – 533mm torpedo tubes, carried 16 torpedoes. Two mine feed tubes, carried 20 mines type PMT.
Crew 54.
22 October 1933 commissioned, based at Kronstadt a unit of the Baltic Fleet.

During the Russo-Finnish War carried out combat duty in the Baltic and Aland Sea.
01 December 1939 after placing mines the boat discovered activity of enemy ships in the Finnish archipelago, but an opportunity for a torpedo attack was there not. 13 December she returned to base.
When war with Germany broke out the LENINIST was under repair by factory No 196 in Leningrad
In August 1941 with about half of the repairs completed, the boat was put in reserve and the crew sent to the new founded marine units on 8 November 1941 located in the commercial port of Leningrad.
LENINIST came under German enemy fire and was damaged by close hits of the enemy artillery.
27 December when the LENINIST was inspected it was found that she was badly damaged and grounded.
1944 She was salvaged by the Salvage Service of the Baltic Fleet.
07 July 1945 was she stricken.
1949 She was dismantled.
