ADVENTURESS HMS 1913

The stamp gives that the HMS ADVENTURESS is depict, but the stamp image is of her as the HMS ANGLIA (N 45) during World War II.

Built as a steel hulled steam yacht with a “spoon” bow under yard No 626 by Hepple & Co. Ltd., South Shields for AM Tree New York.
12 October 1912 launched as the ADVENTURESS.
Tonnage 342 gross, 153 net, dim. 41.17 x 7.59 x 4.26m.
Powered by one 3-cyl. triple expansion steam engine manufactured by shipbuilder, 90 nhp, one shaft, speed 12.0 knots.
February 1913 completed.

1914 Sold to Norman C Neill. London, the yacht was then registered in Southampton.
November 1914 hired as an auxiliary patrol yacht till 18 March 1918, renamed HMS ADVENTURESS (N 044).
Armed with2 – 12 pdr guns.
1918 Sold to William. Garthwaite, London, yacht registry was kept in Southampton.
1921 Sold to W.K. Vanderbilt Jr., New York, renamed in EAGLE. She was given a thorough overhaul and upgraded, where after she was used for some research expeditions. It is also reported that the yacht was chartered by bootleggers who used her between Canada and the United States as a rum-runner.
1925 Sold to Lord Inverclyde, Glasgow, renamed BERYL, registered in Glasgow. At that time she had five state cabins, three bathrooms a dining room and drawing room. Crew 23.
1930 Sold to James Allan, Glasgow and renamed SCOTIA.
1934 Sold to Sir John Humphrey, Glasgow renamed in ANGLIA.
September 1939 bought by the British Admirality renamed HMS ANGLIA (N45) and used as an Armed Boarding Vessel and she served most of her time in Gibraltar on Contraband Control duties.
1947 Sold to Parnassis SN Co. “Efth. Th. Stoforos” SA. Piraeus, Greece and converted to a inter island passenger-cargo vessel, renamed ITEA. Most probably also fitted out with a diesel engine.
1956 Sold to Ioannou Bros, Piraeus, not renamed. Imo No 5165635
1961 Was she renamed KAPETAN STRATIS.
1963 Her owner given as A & M Diamantis and was she sailing under the name POLYCHRONIS.
1970 Deleted by Lloyds, broken up 1974.
