FRAGATA: Hull mostly painted black, straight bow and a round belly. Clinker built.
Two masts and lateen rigged. Length of about 25m.
For hundreds of years these boats have been a fundamental mean of transport to Lisbon region, doing cargo and people transportation between the two sides of the river Tagus., Loading and unloading of large ships from all over the world that docked at the Port of Lisbon.
In the late 60’s with the new road bridges these vessels entered into disuse which led to its abandonment. Formerly there were thousands, 1978 only about 20 fragatas survived.
