The Amphibious transport dock, Landing ship (LPD) is built under yard No 5852 by Fincantieri Italiani, Rivo Trigoso, Italy for the Italian Navy.
26 March 1985 laid down.
10 October 1987 launched as the SAN MARCO (L9893)
Displacement 7,960 ton full load, dim. 135 x 20.5 x 5.4m., flight deck width 20.5, length 133.3m.
Powered by 2 Grandi Motori Trieste GMT A-420.12 diesel engines, 12,353 kW, (16,565 hp), twin shafts with adjustable pitch propellers. Speed 21 knots.
Range 8,600 mile by a speed of 16 knots.
Armament 2 - MG
Can carry 3 – LCM, 3 – LCVP landing craft and 1 patrol craft in her stern floodable dock.
Capacity for 350 troops, 30 medium tanks or 36 tracked armoured vehicles.
Crew 165.
14 May 1988 commissioned, based at the Brindisi naval base.

She took part in various peace missions around the world.
2017 In service.
