25th ANNIVERSARY OF THE PORT OF SINGAPORE AUTHORITY

Post by aukepalmhof » Fri Nov 10, 2017 7:32 pm

For the 25th anniversary of the Port of Singapore Authority, Singapore issued in 1989 a set of four stamps on 3 April 1989. Each of the stamps depict several cargo ships a tugboat and a passenger vessel.
In order to utilize the island’s strategic position and the help in development of new industries, construction of new port facilities along the south coast was essential. The Port of Singapore Authority was established in 1964 to manage this effort. It now owns five ocean gateways, and operates the gateway of Jurong.
The main installation of the Port Authority is Keppel Harbour. It offers alongside berthage for 24 ships and also contains some dockyards. Recently a modern container port has been constructed on reclaimed land between Keppel Harbour and the Telok Ayer basin.
