Railway opening between Naples and Portici in 1839

Post by aukepalmhof » Thu Dec 21, 2017 8:11 pm

This two stamps issued by Italia in 1989 have been designed after a painting made by Fergola Salvatore: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salvatore_Fergola.

In the foreground is depict the opening of the line by King Ferdinand II of the Two Siciles, the first section from Naples to Portice on 03 October 1839. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Naples%E2 ... ci_railway

In the background various sailing vessels and boats are shown in the Gulf of Naples, of which I did not have any information.

The painting is in the Museum di San Martino in Naples
