La Sirene(1691)

Post by Anatol » Fri Mar 23, 2018 4:50 pm

A French ship of the 17th century – «La Sirene»- 60 guns (launched 14 January 1691 at Bayonne) – captured and wrecked in the Battle of Vigo Bay in October 1702. The stamp indicates the date 1791 is a mistake, since ships of this design, at the end of the XVII and the beginning of the XVIII century, were no longer built.

About the French ship Sirena, I found very little information. I had 2 versions, according to the information I found on the Internet. I chose one version in the first version (Ship 1691g-see above). The second version is the "Sirena" galleon, built in 1636, 13 years after the construction of the Polish "Vodnik" galleon. Main characteristics: length - 37 m; width - 9.7 m; team - 200 people. Armament: 38 guns. According to the architecture of the ship's stern, I prefer the second version. Readers of our site have to choose their version.
