THAILAND LONGBOAT RACES

Post by aukepalmhof » Wed May 09, 2018 9:26 pm

Thailand issued in 2017 a set of stamps all 3 B for the longboat races in the country.

The stamp shows:
Top left: Two boats racing heading for the finish line in the Nan Province.
Top right: From the Province of Chumphon, the handle of the flag on the finish line.
Bottom left: Preparation before the race in the Nan Province.
Bottom right: The winner boat.

Long Boat-Racing is one of Thailand’s oldest traditions, with the events having been arranged continuously since the Ayutthaya time (approx. 600 years ago). When they were used to enhance the physical and mental strength of the men folk, as the Kingdom was almost continuously, at war with its neighbours of Burma, Lao and Cambodia.
Not any details on this boats I could find.
