OLUF SVEN

She was built by Scheepswerf “Gideon” v/h J.Koster Hzn., Groningen, Netherlands for Rederi A/S af 1944, Oluf Svendsen, Denmark.
Launched under the name OLUF SVEN.
Tonnage 500 grt, 223 net, 900 dwt., dim. 207.0 x 30.7 x 12.0ft.
One 6-cyl. 2SA diesel, manufactured by Crossley Bross Ltd. hp?
1951 completed.

During 1955 to 1957 the OLUF SVEN was chartered by FIDS to establish a base at Deception Island for the Falkland Island Dependencies Aerial Survey Expedition (FIDASE).
The base was built near to the FIDS station, and Hunting Aerosurveys Ltd. undertook thereafter-extensive aerial photographic surveys from this base.

25 May 1959, still under the name OLUF SVEN and Danish flag she sprang a leak and foundered in position 17 11N 64 28W.
She was on a voyage from Antigua to Ciudad Trujillo (now Santa Domingo) loaded with a cargo of rum and matches.
