Greece has shown the three funelled cruiser Georgios Averoff on two of her stamps. Under the will of a deceased Greek millionaire, M. Georgios Averoff, about £300,000 was left for the benefit of the Greek Navy. This sum was devoted to the part-purchase of the cruiser named in his honour. She was launched in 1910 at the Orlando yard, Leghorn. Italy, and was completed in 1911 at a cost of £1,100,000. She has been modernised and is still in service. Her displacement is 9,956 tons, i.h.p. 20,000 designed speed 24 knots, main armament four 9.2 in., eight 7.5in. and 16 3in guns, length 430ft, beam 70ft. and draught 25ft.
