PACIFIC PRINCESS 1971

Post by shipstamps » Thu Nov 27, 2008 6:50 pm

When I was away there was a discussion on the ship stamp list which ship is depict on the stamp of the Netherlands Antilles issued in 2007, the PACIFIC PRINCESS or ISLAND PRINCESS.
The stamp shows a passengership alongside the jetty at St. Maarten one of the Antilles, so far I know the pier is built after 2000 and before the passengers were ferried in tenders to the shore.
By searching around the net I could not find that the ISLAND PRINCESS made any calls at the island after 2000, anyhow she carried an other name at that time, and was then used between South and North Korea first, later mostly in cruises to the Bahamas under the name DISCOVERY.
http://travel.webshots.com/photo/108592 ... 4481qOmcEf shows the PACIFIC PRINCESS alongside the jetty in 2003, so I think we can be pretty sure that she is depict on the stamp.

The PACIFIC PRINCESS appears for the first time on a stamp, there is a stamp of Barbados also with PACIFIC PRINCESS but she is a different vessel and was built as KUNGSHOLM.

From June 2008 managed by Qual Cruises Ship Management, Madrid, Spain.

Renamed PRINCESS in 2002, was sold to Turkish demolition company Cemsan in March 2012 for 2.5 million Euro, Italian newspaper has reported.

The sale of the Princess came after its owner failed to pay an Italian company six million euros for asbestos removal and refurbishment, and also the cruise ship had been the centre of a law suite for fraud in a US court.

The deal fell trough with Cemsan.
She is again for sale, and in 2013 she is till laid up in Genoa waiting for a buyer.

06 August 2013 arrived by Izmir Ship Recycling Co., Aliaga, Turkey under the name ACIF for scrapping.
