MURMANSK icebreaker

Built as an icebreaker under yard No 385 by Oy Wärtsilä A/B, Helsinki, Finland for the Russian Government.
Launched as the MURMANSK, she is one of the Polar Moskva type polar icebreakers, four sisters the MOSKVA, LENINGRAD, KIEV and VLADIVOSTOK.
Tonnage 9.420 gross, 1.142 net, 5.609 dwt. Dim. 122.23 x 24.59m, length between pp. 103.7m.
Powered by a eight 9-cyl. Wärtsilä-Sulzer diesels, 26.000 bhp, driving 8 generators connected to four electric motors, 5.500 hp. each. Three shafts, speed 18.25 knots.
May 1968 delivered.

By the stamp is given:
P.A.Gordiyenko (1913-1982). A polar explorer, an honoured actor of science and techniques of the USSR, a professor. A participator in the hydrologic expeditions to the Chukot Peninsula, the chief of the polar station "Schmidt Cape" (1938-1942). In 1941-1982 P.A.Gordiyenko worked in the Arctic Research Institute. He participated in nine high latitude air expeditions "Sever", commanded the drift of the research station "Severny Polus - 4" (1955-1956), was the commander of the hydrologic party of diesel electric ship "Lena" (1956-1957). He was the author of some scientific works on the exploration of the Northern Ocean and arctic seas. The stamp features the picture of P.A.Gordiyenko. On the left there are the images of the icebreaker "Murmansk" and Li-2 aircraft.

Miramarshipindex gives that she was broken up in Alang in 1995.
