Built as an iron steam paddle ferry by Maudslay Son & Field, London for Sirket-i Hayriye, Istanbul.
Launched under the name SAHILBENT No 27 (BOSPHORUS No 27) Sahilbent means: linking two shores and was given by the famous Turkish poet Namik Kemal. One sister the SUHULET.
Tonnage 341 gross, 169 net, dim. 45.5 x 8.5m.
Powered by two 2-cyl compound steam engines, manufactured by shipbuilder, total power 300 ihp.
Building cost £12.000.
1872 Completed.

These two ferries were built for the Bosphorus crossing between Uskudar and Kabatas and she were the first ro-ro ferries, with a ramp on the stern and stem for the transport of horses and carriages.
During World War I used in the transport of troops and guns.

1927, (other source gives 1930) she underwent an extensive overhaul, her passengerdeck removed to make her more suitable for the transport of cargo trucks and cars. Her steam engine replaced by a diesel engine.
1959 Taken out of service.

1967 Sold and rebuild in a cargo vessel, renamed KAPTAN SÜKRÜ.
In 1989 is she named by Lloyds Register as second oldest vessel still afloat and in service.
01 September 1998 after discharging heavy logs at Rize Port she sailed for Hopa to load a cargo of mine minerals.
She got on fire in the engine room, offshore of Pazar county of Rize province and ran aground at Ardasent Coast
The seven men crew abandoned the vessel and were rescued.
Officials later declared, engine room was burnt out and other parts of the ship heavy damaged.

2006 Most probably still there, or broken up, not more mentioned in http://www.equasis.org and in a Turkish shipregister.
