BALSA 24

Post by shipstamps » Thu Oct 09, 2008 10:32 pm

She was built in 1966 as a ferry, most probably in Argentina for the Flota Fluvial del Estado (State River Fleet), Argentina.
Total deck space 4.290 square meter, capacity 500 tons of various types of vehicles.
Powered by two outboard engines, one forward one aft, for easy docking and undocking.
Dim. about 45 x 12m.
Capacity for 50 cars or 6 trucks with trailer.
The bridge was placed on one side of the vessel, like an aircraft carrier.
Delivered under the name BALSA 24 (translated Raft 24) but maybe it has an other meaning.

Was in service between Zarata-Canal Irigoyen and Brazo Largo-Talavera till a bridge was inaugurated in 1977.
Not sure what happened then with the BALSA 24 can be that she still is in service in an other place on the River Parana.
