Delicia

Post by shipstamps » Wed Oct 01, 2008 12:02 pm

On November 6th, 1717 Captain Woodes-Rogers was appointed as the Governor of the Bahamas. He sailed from England on April 11th, 1718, in the "Delicia", with orders to stamp out piracy, prevalent in the West Indies. He met with a certain amount of success, making possible the Island motto: "Expulsis Piratis, Restituta Commercia".
"Delicia" is the Island badge.

The yacht on the stamp is a "star" class: http://www.shipstamps.co.uk/forum/viewt ... 689#p18689

The coat of arms shows the DELICIA.
