She was built under yard 482 by Greenock Dockyard Co. Ltd., Greenock, U.K. for the Clan Line Steamers Ltd., (Cayzer, Irvine & Co. Ltd., managers), Glasgow.
17 March 1954 launched under the name CLAN ROBERTSON (3), she was christened by Mrs. Anthony Cayzer.
Tonnage 7.878 gross, 4.107 net. 10.118 dwt., dim. 502 x 65.8 x 39.7.ft, draught 27.3ft.
Powered by three Parson geared steam turbines, manufactured by J.C. Kincaid & Co. Ltd., Greenock, 10.350hp., speed 16¾ knots. One shaft.
Accommodation for 12 passengers. 5 cargo holds.
June 1954 completed.

She was designed to meet the requirements on any of the Clan Lines routes, and is equipped with suitable deck space holds and heavy-lift derricks for large items of cargo such as locomotives and machinery.
1959 registered under Bullard, King & Co., London and renamed UMZINTO.
December 1959 transferred to Springbok Line Ltd., London.
Later transferred to Springbok Shipping Co. Ltd, Cape Town and renamed ROOIBOK.
01 July 1961 the company was sold to the British & Commonwealth Shipping Co. Ltd., to the South African Marine Corporation Ltd., Cape Town, South Africa, managers became South African Marine Corporation Ltd., Cape Town and subsequently renamed SOUTH AFRICAN SHIPPER.
1966 Renamed S.A. SHIPPER.
26 November 1975 she arrived at Kaohsiung, Taiwan to be broken up and handed over to Sing Cheng Yung Iron Steel Co. Ltd. On 04 December.
27 December 1975 breaking commenced.
