Built in 1944 under yard No. 1740 as a cargo vessel by Swan, Hunter & Wigham Richardson Ltd., Newcastle-upon-Tyne, England, for Bullard King & Co. U.K.
01 September 1943 launched under the name UMTATA.
Tonnage 7.280 gross, 3.491 net, 8.922 dwt., dim. 470 x 59.2 x 28.7ft.
Powered by two 3-cyl.triple steam engines, two low-pressure turbines, and twin screws.
January 1944 delivered.

Transferred in December 1959 to Springbok Line Ltd., London.
January 1960 transferred to Springbok Shipping Co. Ltd., Cape Town, South Africa and subsequently renamed KLIPBOK, but she continued sailing under the British flag registered in London.
13 January 1961, she was sold to Japanese shipbreakers and arrived Yokosuka on 5 September, breaking commencing nine days later.
