Built in 1897in Boulogne sur Mer as a herring fishing vessel.
Launched under the name SACRÉ COEUR DE JESUS (Holy hearth of Jesus.)
Ketch rigged, tonnage 46 tons net, length 17 meters.

Raymond Rallier du Baty bought her for his exploration voyage to the French Islands Kerguelen in 1907.
To pay for the expenses of the voyage, the plan was to hunt and catch seals and produce seal-oil at Kerguelen.
22 Sept. 1907 the renamed vessel J B CHARCOT sailed from Boulogne with on board a crew of 7 under command of Raymond Rallier du Baty, his brother Raymond was the first mate. (Other sources give a crew of 6).
During the voyage she made a call at Rio de Janeiro from 19 until 28 Dec., and at Tristan da Cunha from 21 to 27 Jan. 1908 (an other source gives arrived 30 Jan. 1908 at Tristan da Cunha.)

06 March 1908 arrived at the Kerguelen, where the crew charted the coast of Kergeulen, and did meteorology work. Baty did make the first systematic exploration of the Kergeulen Could nowhere find of she caught any seals in that time.
03 June 1909 she sailed from Kerguelen.
03 June 1909 arrived at Melbourne, Australia.
To pay for their crews return ticket to French, the J B CHARCOT was sold.

The only thing I could find on the net that she was thereafter used as a inter-island trader in Polynesia, and that she sank and was lost off Tahiti, not any new name or date given.
