The 20 lepta stamp shows the War of Independence vessel Leonidas, from Apostolis, on the island of Psara, by the painter P. Gravalos. SG1168

The 20 lepta stamp shows the War of Independence vessel LEONIDAS, owned by Nikolaos Apostolis, on the island of Psara, the stamp is designed after a painting made by the painter P. Gravalos.

During the War of Independence in Greek, 9 ships carried the name LEONIDAS, of which 7 came from Psara.

The ship depict on the stamp is the 14 gun corvette? LEONIDAS owned by Apostolis, and built in 1820/21
Length 19.20m, deadweight tonnage 420 tons.
Have not any information on her war history or her fate.
