The London Missionary Society's vessel John Williams VII was built in 1962 by Brooke Marine Ltd., at Lowestoft for the London Missionary Society Corporation, and registered at London. The vessel is based at Tarawa.
The designers were Graham and Woolnough, of Liverpool. A composite-built vessel, with galvanised steel frames, planked with Afrormosia teak, her hull is covered with a special nylon protective sheathing. Gross tonnage is 184.86, net 69.4, and length (o.a.) is 93.75 ft. (w.1.) 87.9 ft., beam 23 ft., draft 7.5ft., with a depth 10.2 ft. Propelling machinery comprises two Gardner diesels, each having six cylinders. Speed is nine knots. The vessel carries a motor life-boat and a whale-boat (or whaler). Princess Margaret named the vessel on November 29, 1962, at Tower Pier, London. SG169
