Oiseau des Iles ll

Post by shipstamps » Tue Aug 19, 2008 11:13 am

The Oiseau des Iles II, dressed overall, maybe for her arrival at her home port, Papeete after being built in 1956 at La Pallice France, by Chantiers de La Rochelle¬Pallice. The stamp makes the vessel look much larger than she actually is, a motorship of 500 gross tons, 206 net and 193 deadweight. Length is 159ft. 10in.breadth 29ft. 3 in., draft 13 ft. 1 in. and depth 14 ft.3 in. A single-decked vessel, her machinery is aft, and she has two holds and two hatches. Two Ruston and Hornsby oil engines develop 890 b.h.p. and give the vessel a speed of 13'/4 knots. Her owners are the Ce. Francaise des Phosphates de L'Oceanie, the vessel being registered at Papeete.
