Sapmer

Post by shipstamps » Tue Aug 19, 2008 11:10 am

An attractive, large-sized, stamp from the French Southern and Antarctic Territories, 75f. value, depicts the Sapmer (ex-Pomerol,) the ship's name being apparently from the initials of the owning company, Societe Anonyme de Peche Maritime et de Ravitaillement. Registered at St. Denis, France, she was built at the Bremen shipyard of Rolandwerft G.m.b.H., in 1951, for the Worms Compagnie Maritime et Char¬bonniere, whose head office is in Paris; the vessel's name being changed in 1966 under her new ownership. She is a refrigerated fish factory stern trawler of 1,208 gross tons, 494 net, and 1,595 deadweight. Her dimensions are: length 284 ft. 6 in., breadth 38 ft. 2 in., draft 15ft; depth 15ft 2 in. The hull is riveted and welded. The trawler has one deck and a shelter deck, and machinery is aft. This consists of two MAN oil engines, of 2,400 b.h.p., which give her a speed of 15 knots. SG95
