This stamp shows the ship in the Turks Island Passage. She was owned by the Jamaica Banana Producers Steamship Co., Ltd of Kingston, Jamaica, and managed by Kaye Son and Co.Ltd. Gross tonnage 5,360 tons. She was built by Lithgows Ltd. at Port Glasgow in 1959. SG492A

The JAMAICA PLANTER was built as a reefer vessel under yard No 1086 by Lithgows Ltd., Port Glasgow for the Jamaica Banana Producers S.S. Co. Ltd., Kingston. 10 August 1959 launched under the name JAMAICA PLANTER (3).
Tonnage 6,159 gross, 3,389 net, 5,360 dwt. Dim. 445.7 x 56.6 x 34.3ft, length bpp. 410ft, draught 24.1ft.
Powered by two geared steam turbines, manufactured by Rowan-Pametrada, 7,000 shp. maximum 8,750 shp. Service speed 17 knots. During sea trials she reached a speed of 19.25 knots. One propeller.
Accommodation for 12 passengers.
Four holds.
December 1959 completed.

This fast refrigerated banana cargo ship was special designed for the tropical fruit trade from the West Indies to the U.K., and she could carry about 1,900 tons bananas, but also other tropical fruit was transported like mangoes, pawpaws, pineapple etc.
Managed after completing by Kaye, Sons and Co. Ltd.

1974 Sold to Universal Seaways Co. Private Ltd. (Great Pacific Navigation Co. Ltd. managers), Singapore and renamed FINE FRUIT.
1976 Sold to Lien Hong Iron and Steel Works.
19 August 1976 demolition commenced at Kaohsiung, Taiwan.
