Post by shipstamps » Sun Aug 10, 2008 12:26 pm

Ferdinando I launched on June 24, 1818. With a statutory load of 115 tons, her dimensions were 38.8 x 6.15 x 1.94m: The diameter of her paddlewheels was 3.60m., each having eight blades, which gave the vessel a speed of six knots. The vessel had accommodation for 16 cabin passengers and 50 on deck. The shipowners proudly announced that they were the company privileged to introduce steam navigation in the Kingdom of Sicily, the first steamship in the Mediterranean leaving Naples on September 27, 1818; arriving at Livorno on October 5 and leaving on October 13, for Genoa. She arrived there the next day, sailing on the 30th, for Marsiglia, where she arrived on November 4, 1818. However the Ferdinando I made her final voyage in March 1820, owing to the economic difficulties of the company, and she was broken up. SG1525
