The Presidente Allende, built in 1975 by Mitsui at the Fujinagata Works, Osaka for Empresa Navegacion Mambisa, of Havana. Gross tonnage is 16,649; net 10,646; and deadweight 27,265 tons. She was specially strengthened for carrying ore cargoes. Nos. 2 and 5 holds may be empty. The vessel has six holds and six hatches. She is powered by a B. and W. type oil engine built by Mitsui, developing 11,600 b.h.p., giving the ship a speed of 15.25 knots. SG2323

Built under yard No 1029 as an ore carrier by Mitsui Shipbuilding & Eng. Co. Ltd. Fujinigata/Osa, Japan for the Cygnus Shipping Inc., Panama.
12 March 1975 launched under the name PRESIDENTE ALLENDE, named after the former President of Chile, Allende, who committed suicide with the gun presented to him by Fidle Castro.
Tonnage16.649 gross, 10.646 net, 27.265dwt., dim. 176.8 x 23.0 x 10.6m. (draught)
Powered by a 6-cyl Mitsui/B&W engine, 11.600 bhp, speed 15.2 knots. One propeller.
Six holds, loading/discharging gear 5 ten-ton cranes.
1975 Delivered.

After delivery chartered or bought by Emp. De Nav. Mambisa, Cuba.
1990 Sold to Catrons Maritima S.A., Cuba, and renamed ITABO.
1994 Renamed in PROSPATHIA and transferred to Cypriot registry.
16 Jan. 1996 she suffered hull damage, when berthing at Bilbao on arrival from Brazil during bad weather
1997 Sold to Hing Lung Shipping Co. S.A., Panama and renamed ALASKA.
The same year already sold to P.T. Bahari Malmur Lines, Indonesia and renamed MAKMUR PERKASA.
2003 Arrested by the Indonesian Government when she had on board about 17.000 m³ logs with destination Tanjung Pinang, Riau. She did have more cubic meter logs on board than as given in her loading manifest.

2004 Sold to Citra Buana Pt., renamed SUMBER MULYO 11.
2006 Sold to Indosuccess Ltd., Singapore, renamed MEZZANINE, Panama flag and registry.
On a voyage from Indonesia to China loaded with iron ore she was caught up in typhoon Mitag north of Taiwan. She foundered in position 25 17N 122 21E on 27 November 2007, of the crew of 27 only one man was rescued.
