The Valetta, a bulk carrier on charter to the British Phosphate Commissioners. She visits the island at intervals to load phosphate rock for ports in New Zealand and Australia. Built in 1968 by Oresundsvarvet A/B, at Landskrona, Norway for the Oslo firm of Halfdan Ditlev-Simonsen and Co., she has a length of 575 ft., beam of 85.18 ft. and draft of 33.25 ft. She is a motorship of 17,002 gross tons, 9,117 net; and 26,150 deadweight. A 6-cylinder Gotaverken oil engine of 12,900 b.h.p. gives her a speed of 15 knots. SG41

# 213, Depth:13,72m. 7 holds, 2 cranes SWL:10 ton, 3-8 ton, 4 derricks SWL:5-10 ton and 2-3 ton, pass:12, strengthened for heavy cargoes, IMO.6812572.
1981 sold to Ocean Leo Nav. Corp., Panama, renamed OCEAN LEO, 1989 to Santa Maritime Carriers Inc., Panama, renamed SANTAWAY, in 1993 sold by Wave Shipping Ltd., Panama to China for scrap, arrived on 11-01-'94.

19 March 1968 launched as VALETTA.
25 June 1968 completed.

03 Jan. 1991 in collision near Inchon with the ship HENRIETTE SCHULTE, where the SANTAWAY got heavy damage.

06 Nov. 1991 sailed from Port Hedland, Australia, most probably bound for Nanjing, she was sold to Chinese shipbreakers, arrived before 11 Jan. 1994 by the breakers yard.
It looks she was sold before she was going to the breakers, the owner for her last voyage is given as Silver Wave Shipping Ltd., Panama.
