COMANDANTE PINARES ferry 1974

Built as a passenger/car ferry under yard No. 1306 by Niigata Engineering Co.Ltd., Niigate, Japan for Empressa Navegacion Caribe, Havana.
1974 Launched under the name COMANDANTE PINARES. One sister ship built on the same yard ISLE DE LA JUVENTUD.
2,161 gross, 423 net, 1,038 dwt. Dim. 78.7 x 12.4 x 3.1m.
Passenger accommodation for 1000 passengers.
Powered by two 8 cyl. Niigata diesel engines, 5,200 bhp., speed 16.5 knots.
November 1974 delivered to owners.

Used for the ferry service between Batabano and the Isle of Pines.
1982: Temporarily renamed CONCUN TROPICANA. In the same year she reverted to her old name COMANDANTE PINARES.

2009: Owned by Caribe Navegacion at Havana. http://www.equasis.org IMO No 7355258.

11 January 2013 deleted from Lloyds Registry, existence in doubt.
