L'EMILE RENOUF

Built as a steel hulled vessel by Forges et Chantiers de la Méditerranée, Graville-Le Havre for Cie. Havraise de Navigation á Voiles (E.Corbler & Co.), Le Havre.
01 March 1897 launched under the name EMILE RENOUF. Two sisters EMILE SIEGFRIED and ERNEST SIEGFRIED.
Tonnage 2.924 gross, 2.425 net., dim. 95.09 x 13.81 x 7.46m.
Barque rigged.
1879 completed.

On her maiden voyage under command of Captain Boju she made the passage from Le Havre to New Caledonia in 97 days. The EMILE RENOUF was built for the nickel-ore trade from New Caledonia.

02 June 1900 (other source gives 06 June) on a voyage from New Caledonia to Glasgow loaded with nickel-ore, still under command of Capt. Boju she ran aground near Mare Island (Loyalities).
She struck Durand Reef of doubtful position.
She managed to get off the reef, but she foundered immediately.
Her crew was rescued by the schooner La PERLE and brought to Noumea.

In the French nautical magazine Le Chasse Marée is given:
02 February 1900 she left Thio, New Caledonia, four days later after tacking to the south, off Duran reef at 7 p.m. she hit a reef, after proceeding an other 50 meter she sank.
The crew abandoned the vessel, 9 on a raft and 23 in a whaleboat, al were rescued by the sloop La Perle.
In the inquest held after the loss of the vessel, Captain Boju and his officers were acquitted.
