Built as a passenger/transport vessel under yard No 16 by the Halifax Shipyard Ltd., Halifax for the Argentine Government (Direccion General de Transportes Navales, Buenos Aires)
02 April 1948 keel laid down.
15 May 1949 (other source 21 May) launched under the name BAHIA AGUIRRE, named after a bay in Patagonia. Two sisters the BAHIA BUEN SUCESO and BAHIA THETIS.
Tonnage 3.828 grt, 2.119 net, 2.820 dwt. Dim. 102.4 x 14.3 x 8m.
Powered by two 5-cyl diesel engines, manufactured by Nordberg Machine Factory Corp. Milwaukee, 3.750 hp. twin screws speed 15 knots.
Bunker capacity 457 ton fuel, daily consumption 16 ton.
Passenger accommodation for 40 first class and 60 third class, crew 71.
Cargo capacity 171.242 cubic feet grain, 155.848 cubic feet general cargo, 4.909 cubic feet reefer space.
Three holds. Loading gear of 1 – 20 tons, 2 – 10 tons, 2 – 5 tons and 2 – 3 tons derricks.
Fitted out with a helicopter landing platform.
29 March 1950 commissioned.
April 1950 completed.

12 May 1950 arrived at Buenos Aires.
First she made two round trips between Buenos Aires and Ushuaia.
1951 She brings the crews of two new acquired warships (9 de JULIO and GRAL BELGRANO) to the USA, before she was used in her first voyage to the Antarctic in the season 1951/52.
During this voyage there are important failures found in her hull structures, and she had to be towed by the hydrographic ship SANAVIRÓN home.
After the Antarctic season 1952/53 she makes a voyage to Europe.
The following years used in the Antarctic during the seasons out of the season used for commercial voyages, or used by the Argentine Navy as transport.

1980/1981 Season, she made her last voyage to the Antarctic in August 1981.
1981 De-commissioned. During her service time she steamed 660.000 miles mostly to the Antarctic territories.
19 October 1987 handed over to Acindar S.A., Campana, Argentina for scrapping.
