RIO DE ORO

Post by aukepalmhof » Fri Nov 20, 2009 7:59 pm

Not much is known of this auxiliary wooden sailing ship.
Built in 1869 at Southampton, U.K.
Lloyds Register of 1931 gives that she was owned by Compania Colonial De Africa, Spain
Lloyds Register did not give an ex name, so it looks that she was built as RIO DE ORO.
Tonnage 104 gross, 85 net, dim. 98.4 x 21.7 x 11.2ft.
Powered by an auxiliary oil engine.
Homeport Las Palmas, Canary Islands.

1943 LR gives that she was owned by Alejandro Gonzáles, Las Palmas.
1945 Still in Lloyds Register, but not more in the Lloyds Register of 1955/56.

Spanish Sahara 1966 50c and 1p sg246 and 248, scott?
