GOLDEN VANITY yacht

Built as a yacht by J. Sander & Co, Galmpton near Brixham (other sources give built by A.W. Gibbs, the Sander yard was owned by the Gibbs family.) for the local maritime artist Arthur Briscoe.
When launched she got the name GOLDEN VANITY.
Tonnage 15 grt, 9.13 net, dim. 16.16 x 3.68 x 2.00m. (draught).
Rigged as gaff cutter.
Auxiliary: One Sutton diesel engine, 30 bhp.
She was designed after the lines of a Mumble Bee, Brixham trawler.
1908 completed.

She was used by Briscoe as a platform to sketch and draw the last commercial sailing ships trading in northern Europe.
Thereafter she had a variety of owners, who used her for cruising, under which a few Atlantic crossings.
1972 She took part in the Observer Single-Handed Trans-Atlantic Race under skipper Peter Crowther, she was the oldest boat of this race and her crossing took 88 days, the longest crossing in the history of this race.

1980 In a derelict condition laying in Brixham she was acquired by the Golden Vanity Trust and restored and thereafter used as a sailtraining vessel for the youth
Based at Brixham with an accommodation for seven guests and two crew.
1995 She underwent again a refit her engine was replaced by a 4-cyl. Beta Marine BV3800 diesel of 75 hp.
1999 Joined the Trinity Sailing Foundation, and now used as a sail training vessel along the south coast of Devon and Cornwall, and takes also part in the Cutty Sark Tall Ships Races since 1993.
2010 In service.
