Ghana issued a set of 4 stamps for the 200th Anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar in 2005, of which the C5000 stamp shows a battle scene between the HMS GOLIATH and the French Le GUERRIER, both ships never were used in the Battle of Trafalgar, most probably the stamp is designed after a painting of the Battle of the Nile in 1798.
Built as a 2e rate wooden ship-of-the-line by Jacques-Luc Coulomb at Brest for the French Navy.
Launched under the name Le GUERRIER.
Tonnage 1750 tons (BM)
Dim. 164 x 43 x 20.8ft.
Armament 28 – 36 pdr., 30 – 18 pdr., 16 – 08 pdr. guns.
Completed in 1753.
01 August 1798, the HMS GOLIATH fired a broadside in the Le GUERRIER she was the lead ship of the French, and at anchor, during the Battle of the Nile. She was taken later by HMS ZEALOUS, but she was in a bad condition and burnt at anchor on 18 August 1798.
