Typical loads
One Landing Craft Tank (LCT), tanks, wheeled and tracked vehicles, artillery, construction equipment and military supplies. A ramp or elevator forward allowed vehicles access to tank deck from main deck
Additional capacity included sectional pontoons carried on each side of vessel amidships, to either build Rhino Barges or use as causeways. Married to the bow ramp, the causeways would enabled payloads to be delivered ashore from deeper water or where a beachhead would not allow the vessel to be grounded forward after ballasting

During World War II USS LST-382 was assigned to the Europe-Africa-Middle East Theatre and participated in the following campaigns: Sicilian occupation, July 1943. Salerno landings, September 1943. Invasion of Normandy June 1944.
Decommissioned and transferred to the United Kingdom, 29 November 1944
Transferred, on lease, to France, 23 January 1948, name retained
Sold out right to France, 21 March 1949, and commissioned RFS LST-382
While in French service known to have been used as an immobile repair ship at Saigon, South Vietnam
Struck from the Naval Register, 28 April 1949
January 1948 sold to the Frence Navy and renamed RFS La PAILOTTE.
